Since the beginning of the year.....

I decided that it is time for me to create a blog. I want to do this to keep my ideas organized and also for parents to see what is going on in the class.

I hope to make my blog very organized over Thanksgiving Break.

This year I decided on a "Western Theme" for the class. However, every time it is a new holiday I decorate the class for that holiday with different things including student crafts. I wish I would have taken a picture of everything the students did this year, but I only have a few pictures since the beginning of the year.

Here are some pictures of my classroom as it looked like on the First Day of School:

Here is a picture of one of my students writing capital & lowercase letters in shaving cream. I also have them write sight words and decodable words during Phonics.

Here is one of my students completing a word sort from Words Their Way.

Here is one of my students spelling words with Cheez-it Scrabble letters.

Here is a phases of the moon activity that I found on Pinterest. It was a little difficult for my students to write the phases around the plate, even with models. If I do this next year I plan to write the words for them.

Here are two pictures of two little girls in my class dressed up in an Army Uniform. One of the dad's came to my class on Veterans Day and presented a wonderful presentation for the class. He begin with a powerpoint presentation that showed pictures of the kids family and friends when they were in the military. He also brought MRE's for each student to try. It was an interesting experience to try the different food! He also made dog tags for each student and gave them a military workout outside. It was a wonderful day and the students were REALLY able to understand why Veterans Day is so important. We also had two other visitors, a grandpa of one of the students, and one of the students brothers who is currently serving.

We made butter on the last day before Thanksgiving Break. We used Heavy whipping cream and the students shook it until they formed butter in their containers. It is important to separate the buttermilk out from the butter. Also, remember to add salt to some of the butter so the kids can try it with and without salt on their bread!

This is one of the projects I have my students do at home and then bring to school. They decorate a feather and then I hang it with their family name.

This is my class and me wearing their pilgrim hats we made for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!
